Vík í Mýrdal, South Iceland
Welcome to Black Beach Guesthouse — the closest accommodation to the legendary Reynisfjara black sand beach. We built this place because we believe that waking up to the sound of the Atlantic crashing against black volcanic sand is something everyone should experience at least once. From our terrace you can see the beach stretching out before you, with the Reynisdrangar sea stacks rising dramatically from the ocean. We have eight rooms in total, each with its own private bathroom. Our Standard Double Rooms look out toward the mountains — a view that changes with every passing cloud and season. If you want to be closer to the ocean, our Superior Double Rooms face the sea and come with a private balcony where you can sit with your morning coffee and watch the waves. For families or small groups, we have a Triple Room and a spacious Family Suite with two connected rooms that sleeps four comfortably. One of the things our guests love most is our outdoor hot tub. After a long day of hiking glaciers or chasing waterfalls along the south coast, there's nothing quite like sinking into hot water under the wide Icelandic sky. On clear winter nights, you might even catch the Northern Lights dancing above you from the tub. It's available until 22:00 every evening. Every morning we serve a homemade Icelandic breakfast with fresh-baked bread, skyr, eggs, smoked fish, fruits, and cereals. Our guests tell us it's the best start to a day of exploring — and we agree. We also have a guest kitchen available if you'd like to prepare your own meals. Reynisfjara is a ten-minute drive from us, but honestly you can see it from our terrace. The beach is famous for its powerful waves, columnar basalt formations, and Hálsanefshellir cave. Please always respect the waves — they are beautiful but unpredictable. Right here in Vík you'll find everything you need: restaurants (Súður-Vík is just five minutes away and their lamb is incredible), a grocery store, the Vík Wool Shop for authentic Icelandic knitwear, and the beautiful Reyniskirkja church. We're also perfectly positioned for day trips to Skógafoss, Seljalandsfoss, the Dyrhólaey cliffs with puffins in summer, and Mýrdalsjökull glacier for snowmobile or ice cave tours. Check-in is between 15:00 and 21:00, and check-out is at 11:00. We're open year-round — winter here has its own stark, dramatic beauty that many of our guests find even more magical than summer. We look forward to hosting you.
