About

Welcome to Klaustur Inn — a cozy little haven in Kirkjubæjarklaustur, the village everyone calls simply "Klaustur." We're the only village between Vík and Höfn on the Ring Road, which makes us an essential stop for travelers driving Iceland's south coast. But we like to think people stay here not just because they need to, but because they want to. Our inn has ten rooms, all with en-suite bathrooms, and each one decorated with a warmth that reflects this community. We have Double Rooms, Twin Rooms for friends traveling together, and Triple Rooms for small families. Breakfast is included with every stay — a hearty Icelandic buffet served from 07:30 to 09:30 to set you up for whatever adventure lies ahead. What we're really known for, though, is our homemade cakes. My grandmother started the tradition and we've kept it going. The rhubarb cake is the star, made with rhubarb from our own garden, but the chocolate cake and the kleinur (traditional Icelandic twisted doughnuts) have their devoted fans too. Many guests say the cake alone is worth the stop. Klaustur sits in a surprisingly beautiful setting for such a small village. Systrafoss waterfall is literally a two-minute walk from our front door — you can hear it from some of our rooms. The Kirkjugólf, or Church Floor, is a remarkable natural pavement of hexagonal basalt columns that's just a five-minute stroll away. And Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon — one of Iceland's most photogenic spots — is only a ten-minute drive. It's a two-kilometer gorge with moss-covered walls up to a hundred meters deep. Absolutely stunning. We serve a set dinner menu every evening at 19:00, priced at 7,900 ISK per person. It changes with the seasons and what's available, but always features locally sourced ingredients. Please book by 16:00 on the same day so we can prepare everything fresh. From Klaustur, you're well positioned to explore some incredible spots. Skaftafell and its glacier hikes are about 45 minutes east. The Lakagígar (Laki) craters — a haunting volcanic landscape — are accessible from here in summer. And if you're continuing east, Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon is about ninety minutes away. Check-in is between 14:00 and 22:00, and check-out is at 10:30. We have free parking and WiFi throughout the inn. People often tell us that Klaustur was the highlight of their Ring Road trip — not for any single dramatic sight, but for the feeling of arriving somewhere genuinely welcoming after a long drive through wild, empty landscapes. That's exactly what we aim for.
