Skógar, South Iceland
Welcome to Skógafoss Lodge — where you fall asleep to the sound of one of Iceland's most magnificent waterfalls. We're located right at the foot of Skógafoss, a sixty-meter cascade that fills the air with mist and rainbows on sunny days. It's a three-minute walk from our front door to the base of the falls, and our premium rooms have direct views of it — imagine waking up, pulling back the curtains, and seeing that wall of water thundering down right in front of you. Our lodge has twelve rooms designed with modern Scandinavian style and Icelandic warmth. Standard Doubles look out over our gardens and are a perfect comfortable base. Premium Doubles face the waterfall — easily our most requested rooms, so book early. Our Junior Suites are spacious retreats with king beds, sitting areas, rain showers, and those breathtaking waterfall views. And our Family Rooms fit up to four with a double bed and bunk bed. Breakfast is included with every room. After a day of exploring, there's nothing better than our natural hot spring pool. It's fed by a geothermal spring that keeps the water at a perfect 38-40 degrees Celsius, and it's open to all guests from 07:00 to 22:00. In winter, you might find yourself soaking under the Northern Lights. In summer, the midnight sun bathes everything in golden light. Our restaurant sources ingredients as locally as possible — lamb from south coast farms, fish from nearby waters, vegetables from geothermal greenhouses. Breakfast is a full Icelandic buffet. Dinner is an intimate affair with a changing seasonal menu. We recommend making a reservation at check-in as tables fill up quickly. Skógar is a legendary spot for hikers. The Fimmvörðuháls trail starts right here and takes you between two glaciers — Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull — all the way to Þórsmörk valley. It's one of the most spectacular day hikes in the world. We partner with local guides and can arrange guided hikes for any fitness level. Even if you're not up for the full trail, the walk up the stairs beside Skógafoss to the viewing platform above is worth every step. The Skógar Folk Museum next door is a hidden gem — a wonderful collection of traditional Icelandic buildings, tools, and artifacts that tell the story of life on the south coast through the centuries. From here, Seljalandsfoss is twenty minutes west, Vík and Reynisfjara beach are forty minutes east, and the Sólheimasandur plane wreck (the famous DC-3) is a short detour along the way. Check-in is between 14:00 and 22:00, and check-out is at 11:00. Free parking on site. Come for the waterfall, stay for everything else.
